Herman Miller Goetz Sofa
Traditional sofa construction consists of a wooden frame with padding and upholstery applied over it. Mark Goetz turned that tradition inside out with this sofa. Its molded veneer shell is clearly visible as both aesthetic element and structural frame. To achieve this look, Goetz incorporated an intricate miter that eliminates all but one seam where several planes intersect. Veneers wrap around the sofa's sides and back for a dramatic profile. Thick cushions and a seat depth that gives correct ergonomic support provide comfort.
